Facts
In 1988 Defendant Barclay Hollander Corporation developed the 121unit Camarillo Springs Townhome complex in the City of Camarillo. Although the soils underlying the project were highly to critically expansive, the entire project was designed and constructed for low to moderate soil expansivity. This resulted in doming, cracking and separation of the concrete slab and foundation systems throughout the project. Within the first year of the project's existence, Barclay Hollander repaired and replaced many of the patio and garage slabs, which simply cracked again.
Plaintif Claimed
that all the concrete on the project needs replacement with thicker slabs, reinforcing steel, and deepened perimeter footings.
Defendant Argued
that the concrete on project needs only spot repair and replacement at minimal cost.
